Ever wondered why you may not see any carnivore with horns. Well, the main reason is that horns are not possessed for attack but rather for defense. The majority of animals that have horns are herbivores and a few are omnivores but mainly vegetarians.
Some animal horns have rings that grow from year to year to tell their age but all are designed naturally for them to defend themselves against predators. Like that of the buffaloes, are used to defend their large body from predators group attack. The male buffaloes also use their horns against other males to determine dominance for mating.
It has also been observed that buffaloes exhibit a symbiotic relationship with some African birds like the oxpeckers which eat up lice from the skin of buffaloes while the birds enjoy a lift as the buffaloes move around.
Like the elephants, it's been reported that buffaloes don't forget anyone who has attacked them in the past. That the only time they attack is when they sight anyone who has previously attacked them, they circle round the individual for a serious attack, which brought about the statement "black death".
