OPEN DEFECATION ARRESTS IN LAGOS, A BEAM OF HOPE FOR EPEMARINA.

On twitter recently, I saw some funny pictures trending. The guys were caught in the act of defecating openly in public places, a common act in the country especially in coastal communities.

The arrest sent some hopeful signals to me in the sense that if enforcement agencies really get to work, acts of this kind would drastically reduce.

One fact about open defecation and our marine habitats is the fact that everything we push into our water bodies comes back to us.

You may be wondering how but the simple truth is that all garbage or wastes dumped harm living organisms in there and risks our health. I have witnessed fresh excreta in fishes after beng cut. I have seen polythene bags in goats. These are harmful to humans and one of such harm is ingestion of microplastics which we humans in turn consume with the fish, crabs, prawn etc that we buy.

The guys in the pictures below were caught by Envronmental task force against open defecation in Lagos. This move is laudable as it supports environmental advocacy against climate change and then, EpeMarina comes to mind with high hopes.

I envision a safer and cleaner EpeMarina shoreline in my hometown, Epe, if the task force are deployed there. I imagine a serene EpeMarina where I could go and relax to experience the freshness and sweetness of the shoreline without covering my nose and spitting saliva.

This is possible if we all come together to take climate action for the benefit of generations unborn.
