It was a milestone achievement for NYCN Epe Branch when the maiden edition of the World Youth Day Celebration tagged, " Flattening The Curve of Unemployment In Nigeria: The Youth On Call" took place on Saturday 7th November 2020 at Epe Local Government Council Chambers, Ita-Marun.
It is a well known fact that growth, progress and development can only thrive in a peaceful environment where people of diverse background can reside, do businesses without let or hindrance and sleep with their eyes closed.
Resources of all kind are definitely expected to be in safe hands under the watch of security agents provided by government to do the needful.
It is therefore safe to say Epe town and its environs can be best described in the above mentioned terms.
In contrast, unemployment is a monster that has threatened the productivity of our teeming youth population. Creating several means of earning a living away from government employment through innovation is no doubt a welcome development to explore presently.
Irrespective of the state of unemployment, coupled with the fact that governments all over the world employ a little fraction of job seekers while Micro Small and Medium Enterprises ( MSMEs ) caters for the economies of most countries of the world, it is highly imperative for youths to look inwards and figure out how they can complement efforts of government in tackling the scourge head on. The battle against unemployment can be won collaboratively as both government and youths must live up to expectations.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the World Youth Day organised by National Youth Council of Nigeria, Epe Local Branch, the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Hon. Adedoyin Adesanya called on youths to shun all forms of violence and continue to maintain peace and orderliness in the town.
Hon. Tunde Subair, Epe SLG.
While declaring the programme open, the Executive Chairman ably represented by the SLG, Hon. Subair Tunde in his short but profound address, expressed delight at being privileged to be in the midst of youths from the community. He also gave kudos to the leadership of the NYCN for their relentless efforts in executing the event. He found it worthy to also admonish youths to eschew all manner of hooliganism, thuggery, violence and most importantly cyber crime noting that such acts are inimical to growth and development of any society.
" I am very happy to be here in the midst of youths of our beloved town and it as a great privilege for me to declare this programme open. Thumbs up to the leadership of NYCN EPE for their painstaking efforts towards the success of this programme. I hereby admonish our youths to shun all form of hooliganism, violence and cyber crime as acts of this kind will take us nowhere", he said.
Recall that the aftermath of the Lekki Tollgate shootings tagged "Lekkigenocide" and "Lekkimassacre" turned out to be a devastating experience for Lagos residents where unimaginable damages and losses were recorded owing to arson and looting by hoodlums. Notably, Epe town recorded no form of violence or destruction of public or private properties and businesses.
This laudable development, in spite of the communal dichotomy in the town, can not be unconnected with the fact that peace loving Epe leaders either political, religious, traditional or youths were proactive enough to nip in the bud any dastardly act capable of upsetting the relative peace enjoyed by all.
